Nandina domestica, the Japanese sacred bamboo, is a fantastically easy plant to grow, which has so many qualities - particularly its foliage and its toughness. Now marketed in Bunnings under the TUFF range of plants
Unfortunately when people hear the word "bamboo" they think invasive grasses, but Japanese sacred bamboo isn't a bamboo at all. Their common name comes only from it's resemblance to bamboo due to the fine lacy foliage, and the cane-like growth pattern of the plant.
Nandina can be grown in partial shade, but the foliage colors will be much more intense if it is grown in full sun
